Life Care Planning

What is Life Care Planning?

Life Care Planning is a Family Affair. Many family members who care for frail elders or who have a disabled loved one spend many sleepless nights wondering if they are doing everything they can do to assure their loved one is well cared for. Despite the national debate on health care reform being spearheaded by President Obama, there are few options available to pay for custodial care for a frail elder and those with disabilities, and navigating the maze to qualify for what little government assistance is available can be a very daunting task.

With the growing prevalence of long term debilitating illnesses such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease, many married couples are rightly concerned that their income and assets will be exhausted on the care costs of the ill spouse, leaving the surviving spouse with an uncertain future regarding their own care. In an effort to keep costs down, many elderly spouses endanger their own health by attempting to provide caregiver services on their own. Children providing care for both their parents as well as their own children are often referred to as the “sandwich generation.” However, many children cannot offer substantial physical or monetary assistance to their parents because they either do not live in close proximity to the parent or their time and financial commitments to the needs of their own families prevent them from doing so. We can help.
